Matthew 28:19-20

The theme of Pastoral Heart for the month of May is Missions. As your Missions Pastor, I want to share a significant challenge that lies ahead as we expand our global missions efforts. Kum Yan, as part of the Love Singapore Movement is actively involved in the Love Japan Project aiming to share the gospel in this needy nation of 122 millions where less than 1% of the population are Christian. The Japanese people present the world’s second largest unreached people group.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Mt 28:19-20)
In response to this critical need, our leadership has given the green light for our first church-planting team to head to Nagoya in Jun 2025. The vision set before us is bold and ambitious—to engage with young people and see 25 lives transformed by the love of Christ within a 12-month period. This task before us is not one to be taken lightly, but through the power of prayer, faith, and commitment, we can trust that God will provide all that is needed to bring this vision to fruition. It is essential that we approach this endeavor with a deep sense of reverence and reliance on the Lord, knowing that He goes before us and equips us for the work He has called us to do.
First and foremost, I urge each and every one of us to join in fervent prayer for this mission. We need to ask God to bring the right people onboard – those who are passionate about sharing His love with those who need it most. We know that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. That’s why we need to ask God to guide us in putting together a team of dedicated and compassionate individuals who are ready to dive into this calling with all they’ve got.
Each member of the team will be a crucial piece of the puzzle, working together in unity and humility to effectively sow the seeds of the Gospel in Nagoya. As we pray for God to bring forth the right people, let’s also pray for wisdom, insight, and God’s direction in choosing the perfect mix of people. We’re praying for a diverse group with different talents, skills, and gifts that will strengthen and support each other.
And as we pray for our team, let’s also lift up the young people in Nagoya. Our prayers can reach across the miles and touch their lives. Let’s build this mission on a foundation of faith and prayer, trusting that God will prepare hearts to hear the message of hope and redemption through our team’s efforts.
May God shower His blessings on all of us as we come together in prayer, faith, and anticipation. Let’s stand firm in our commitment to back this crucial mission with all our hearts.
