Missions Sunday

Matthew 28:19-20

May 6, 2024

When it comes to missions, especially in our workplaces, we should be excited and committed.

Today is our annual Missions Sunday which is a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to spread love, hope and kindness to those in need. This year’s theme on Missions in the Marketplace is to encourage everyone to get involved in missions, both globally and locally, to spread God’s love and redemption right where we work and live. It is about thinking how we can use our jobs, relationships, and resources to share the good news, bring hope, and show compassion to those around us. Through the Sunday message and our workshops, we hope everyone will understand their role in God’s plan better, feel inspired to take action, and find a deeper purpose in what they do everyday.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Mt 28:19-20)

Some people might think missions are only about going abroad or being a vocational missionary. While those are vital parts of spreading the message, Missions in the Marketplace shows us that every part of our lives is connected to this mission. The marketplace isn’t just about buying and selling—it includes our work, schools, neighborhoods, and social circles. It’s where we interact with others, express our needs, and show God’s love and truth in action.
We should remember that the call to make disciples isn’t just for church settings or missionaries. It’s for everyone who follows Christ. Each of us has a special role to play in God’s plan, and this year’s theme invites us to think creatively about how we can make a difference in society, bringing peace and showing God’s love in everything we do.
When it comes to missions, especially in our workplaces, we should be excited and committed. We shouldn’t sit back but actively engage in God’s work with a proactive and flexible mindset. We should see our jobs as opportunities to bring God’s purpose, honesty, and kindness into our everyday interactions. By embracing this mission at work, we can influence our colleagues, clients, and others, leading them to meet Christ through our actions and words.
Today, let’s recommit ourselves to the mission set before us. Together, we can make a difference. Each small act of kindness, each word of encouragement, each prayer whispered in faith has the power to transform lives and bring about God’s kingdom here on earth.
May this Missions Sunday inspire us all to reach out, lend a hand, and spread joy wherever we go. Together, we can make a positive impact and create a ripple effect of kindness that knows no bounds. May God bless you abundantly as you continue to shine His light wherever you go.
