02 Doing It Right: Reaping and Sowing

Galatians 6:7-10

November 21, 2022

While it is true that the harvesting of good crop may not be evident straight away, in due time we will reap a harvest of blessings. Whatever the case may be, it is clear that every action has results.

Galatians 6:7-10
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:8)

The idea of reaping and sowing is a natural law of life. I mean, you would certainly be surprised if you planted rice and wheat came up instead. This law of reaping and sowing is true in other areas, too. For instance, if you are lazy, you won’t be able to hold on to your job for long. If you gossip about your friends, you will lose your friends. If you hate someone, there will be people who hate you. If you sow to please your own desires, you’ll reap a crop of sorrow and evil. If you sow to please God, you will reap joy, blessing and everlasting life (v8) and so on. While it is true that the harvesting of good crop may not be evident straight away, in due time we will reap a harvest of blessings. Whatever the case may be, it is clear that every action has results.

I thank God for a group of brothers and sisters in Christ who has been supporting a pastor from Myanmar since 2006. Even though the political, social and economic conditions in that country have been unstable for many years, this group of Christians continue to provide spiritual, emotional and material support to this pastor till this day. By the grace and protection of God and her supporters, the pastor continues to work hard to strengthen the church she planted, so much so that the church has become a solid refuge of peace and hope to the people in that area.

My question to us, brothers and sisters in Christ, is this: What kind of seeds do you desire to sow? What are you going to do about it?
