Zeal & Responsibility For Evangelism

Romans 10:9-15

August 12, 2024

May all our lives be beautiful through our zeal and responsibility to preach the Gospel.

“If the second coming of Jesus Christ is tomorrow, what will you do today?” This is the question that I asked during Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church’s Young Adults Camp where I was the speaker. I was expecting some answers like spending time with family, having a good meal, reading the bible and pray from the group of young adults. One rose and said, “I would make a list of my family and friends, contact them and said in Mandarin, “ 快快信耶稣!要不然就来不及了!快快信耶稣!要不然就来不及了!” (“Quickly believe in Jesus Christ, or else it will be too late.)” I like the way she said it, with lots of responsibility and zeal, and prayed that she does her best to bring her loved ones to Christ. (So far, she has brought two. Praise the Lord!)

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”(Rom 10:15)

Today’s passage comes from Romans 10:9-15 and I would like to zoom into verse 15 which says, “And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we are all sent by God to preach the Gospel. This is the great commission that God has given us. In the 40- Day Love Singapore prayer movement, we are also always reminded to preach the gospel and to bring our loved ones to Christ. Do we have the urgency to want to preach the gospel and bring our non-believing family members and friends to church? Of course, I know that it is not easy and there are times where we really need to be patient. But it doesn’t stop us from praying to the LORD on their behalf, and building relationships with them. Mandarin Congregation has been organizing Chinese Alpha recently to give everyone a chance to bring anyone whom we cared to come and find out who Jesus Christ is. We strive to build a relationship with our participants, to know them and care for them as much as we can by the grace and mercy of God, and to bring them to Christ. It will be starting this Wednesday and Saturday so I sincerely hope that you will be bringing your loved ones here.
Romans 10:15 continues to say, “…How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” The life of preaching the Gospel, no matter whether it is lay or clergy, is simply beautiful and motivating. May all our lives be beautiful through our zeal and responsibility to preach the Gospel. Amen!
