Hebrews 10:23-25
God bless you and strengthen you as we face the coming days and weeks together.
This year has been quite a crazy year for many around the world. The United States of America is in the midst of election season, the war in the Middle East is ongoing and shows no signs of slowing down, major financial recession has hit many countries with thousands losing their jobs and livelihoods, and even here in the tiny city-state of Singapore, many people are losing hope as they look toward the uncertainty of the future. How about you?
“not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Heb 10:25)
In the recent 8 weeks, YC has been on a sermon series called “Unshakeable” based on the Letter to the Hebrews. The question I posed to YC at the start of the series was, given that we are living in the End Times and the world will soon turn against God and His people (that’s us!), “Will you stand firm to the end?” and not only that, “Will you dare to witness for Jesus on the pain of death?”
Our YC lay preachers have been astute in bringing the Word of God to us after having wrestled with the Word and seeking the discernment of the Holy Spirit. The sermons were not easy to hear but our lay preachers have, through the Letter to the Hebrews, spoken into how we are to build an unshakeable faith in preparation for the End. The Letter to the Hebrews challenged the cultural norms of Jewish Christians of the time, and in that same vein, has challenged us as End-Time Christians to think deeper about our Christian faith and the legacy we have inherited here at KY.
If you are feeling discouraged, or you are finding yourself in an uncertain situation, may these verses in Hebrews 10 be an encouragement to you,
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
God bless you and strengthen you as we face the coming days and weeks together.
