1 Corinthians 12:27

May we walk forward together in this oneness, with Christ as our Head.
Greetings dear Family!
Last week, we mentioned that Kum Yan is really a Family! The moment we believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour, we are saved into a Family, and called children of God by our Heavenly Father. We are called to love one another deeply, beyond our various meetings and activities, and to live lives of care and sacrifice, loving one another as Christ has loved us. What a high calling!
But why do we do that? One of the reasons is that the Father did not just send Jesus to save us as individuals, but also to make us what Scripture tells us — His Body.
THE BODY OF CHRIST
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. – 1 Cor. 12:27
As His Body, we no longer live only for ourselves, but for Christ and for one another. Just as our physical body has many parts that must work together, so in Christ we belong to one another, called to unity, love, and mutual service.
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. – Rom. 12:4–5
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. (1 Cor. 12:27)
How then do we live this out?
1. By Submitting to the Holy Spirit
The Body can only function properly when it is sensitive and obedient to the Spirit’s leading.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. – Gal. 5:25
2. By Laying Down Our Rights
True unity often requires us to die to self and surrender our own agendas.
“I have the right to do anything,” you say — but not everything is beneficial… No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. – 1 Cor. 10:23–24
3. By Offering Our Gifts Selflessly
The Spirit gives each of us gifts not for our recognition, but for the good of the Body.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. – 1 Cor. 12:7
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. – 1 Cor. 12:11
THE INVITATION TO ONENESS
When we live this way: Spirit-led, self-denying, and gift-sharing, the church moves as one Body under Christ the Head.
Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. – Phil. 2:2
What would it look like if Kum Yan moved even more as One under the Lordship of Jesus? What if we were fully submitted to the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to align our hearts, motives, and agendas with His? What if, together with the global Body of Christ, we prayed and lived out: Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven?
Dear Family, this is not just a hope — this is the reality of the Family of God! We belong to this great Family with a great God, and He is moving among us today. So let us lay down our rights and offenses, embrace one another as God’s gift, and champion each other toward love and good deeds. In doing so, we make the Father known together.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. – John 13:35
May we walk forward together in this oneness, with Christ as our Head, so that Kum Yan truly lives as His Family and His Body in the world!
