The 49th Session of the CAC

John 15:16

November 3, 2024

An important agenda this year is the election of the Annual Conference President

The 49th Session of the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Singapore will take place from the 11 to 14 November at the Charis Methodist Church. During this annual session, reports will be presented and delegates review and reflect on all the different ministries of the church this past one year. They also make plans for the coming years.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (Jn 15:16)

An important agenda this year is the election of the Annual Conference President. When elected, the President will lead all the 17 churches within the Conference towards fulfilling the goal of being a disciple-making Conference.
Two months ago I wrote about the difference between an election in a church verses those from, say, the US Presidential election. In the latter, candidates campaign and convince the voters that they are the best person for the job. They do that by bringing up their track records and all their past achievements.
However in a church election, there is no campaigning between eligible candidates. Instead, the responsibility rest with the church and the delegates to sincerely pray and seek the Lord’s will on whom He has chosen to lead. It is a sacred exercise of seeking the will of God.
Earlier I have given the account of Matthias being chosen to replace Judas. According to Acts the people cast lot and the lot fell to Matthias (Acts 1:26) Matthias did not campaign to be chosen. And it was the disciples who prayed and sought the Lord sincerely before making their decision. They must be well aware that the Lord Jesus Himself took time to pray before calling the 12.
Therefore, I urge you to pray for this coming Annual Conference session. Pray for the delegates to discern God’s will clearly on whom to elect to the various offices. This is because God’s plan is always the best for us.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (John 15:16)
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, help us trust in You when there is an important decision to be made. May we have faith that You will guide and provide for us whichever path we choose. Amen.
