Social Concerns Ministry

Leviticus 25:35-36

May 29, 2023

The Social Concerns Ministry may be a relatively new ministry in Kum Yan Church, but it is very much aligned with God’s love and care for the disadvantaged groups in our society.

“If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you.” (Leviticus 25:35-36)

Today is Social Concerns Sunday. Two years ago, Kum Yan Church started the Social Concerns Ministry, as such the LCEC added positions to facilitate the Ministry. Over the past two years, the Social Concerns Ministry launched Project Bless to show care and concern for our community. Our brothers and sisters reached out to workers in the church’s vicinity and gave them gifts as an expression of our love and concern. Furthermore, the ladies from our Sisters Fellowship made homecooked food and hosted a Chinese New Year celebration for several foreign workers from China who could not return to their hometowns for their family reunion dinner. A few days ago, we also invited a group of workers for lunch, so that we can make friends with them and for them to get to know Kum Yan Church.

Every Congregation has a representative in the Social Concerns Ministry. Do you know who is the representative from your Congregation? Dear brothers and sisters, if you have not participated in any outreach activity, I hope that you would seize the opportunity to join the next activity when it is launched. Step out of your comfort zone and expand your social relations. At this juncture, I would also like to thank and affirm the brothers and sisters who are involved in our Social Concerns Ministry in one way or another. God is delighted with your heart and service.
The Social Concerns Ministry may be a relatively new ministry in Kum Yan Church, but it is very much aligned with God’s love and care for the disadvantaged groups in our society. God had commanded the Israelites to care for the poor and needy, for example, “If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you.” (Leviticus 25:35-36). I pray that we will bring God’s blessing to our church’s neighbourhood.
