These blessings are God-given because the Lord has a calling upon our nation to be the “Antioch” of Asia.
Dear KY family,
Now is the season for prayer and fasting in intercession for our nation. For the past 60 years, God has been good to Singapore, and has allowed our nation to develop and flourish. From a tiny island-nation whom the world thought would not survive the harsh economic climate and unstable regional context, our God has blessed and protected Singapore from much harm and disaster. But these blessings are God-given because the Lord has a calling upon our nation to be the “Antioch” of Asia.
In all things, may Christ be glorified!
And so, I invite you as Kum Yan Methodist Church to join in the national prayer and fasting movement known as the 40.Day prayer movement to pray for our nation to fulfill the call that God has for her. On Day 22 of the 40.Day prayer program, Ps Eugene Seow, Chairman of Antioch 21, reminded all Singaporean Christians to take hold of our God-given inheritance and purpose by courageously stepping into the unique call that God has for each one of us. Indeed, some are called to full-time ministry, some to teaching in public schools, some to the marketplace, and even others to the many dingy corners of secular worklife. But in every sphere, and in every corner of the earth, the Gospel MUST go forth. And we are called to be the ones to bring the light of Christ to the ends of the earth. It is only then that the Lord Jesus will return in all of His glory and splendour.
Someone wise once told me a spiritual principle that resonated with me so much. He said,
1. The destiny of a believer is tied to the destiny of the local church God has planted him/her in
2. The destiny of the local church is tied to the destiny of the city that God has planted that church in
This is how our individual callings relate to the call that God has for our nation. Is Singapore called to be the Antioch of Asia? If you believe so, then this is the season to pray and fast, and seek the Lord on how each of our inheritance and purpose plays into what He is doing in our nation, and from us to the rest of Asia.
As a last word, I would also like to encourage all of us to join the 8th or 9th August Day of His Power prayer event. Kum Yan will be one of 30 centres to host Day of His Power in English on 8th August. If you are English-speaking, let’s come to church and pray together with many from other churches. If you are Mandarin or dialect-speaking, please join at another centre on 9th August. It will be a wonderful gathering of God’s people interceding for our nation to be all that God has called us to be. In all things, may Christ be glorified!
