Genesis 1: 28

We must do our best to uphold this institution that God has created and blessed.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” (Genesis 1:28)

Today is Mother’s Day. I would like to wish all mothers a Blessed Mother’s Day and may the joy and wisdom of our Heavenly Father fill you.

In Genesis 1: 28 and 2: 18-24, we see that God created the woman in His own image, so that the man would have a suitable helper and not live alone. God took one of the man’s ribs and made the woman and brought her to the man. God instructed that a man should leave his parents and be united with his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. Together, they shall bear many children and rule over God’s creation.

God blessed men and women to bear children and increase in number. The role of a “mother” is established through birth giving. To put in another way, the role of mother is an addition to the role of a spouse. That is, a woman must first become a wife to be a mother.

We thank our Heavenly Father for His wonderous creation. We must respect the institution of marriage between one man and one woman that God has established. To deny this institution is to write off the beauty of God’s creation. We must do our best to uphold this institution that God has created and blessed.
