Matthew 5:13-16
Our mission to be the shine brightly and bring God’s Words and Presence as blessings to the world.
Today is Trinity Theological College Sunday for Mandarin and Cantonese Congregation where TTC lecturers are invited to preach in our services. This day, we are also reminded of our partnership with them through training and development of pastors and lay leaders including myself, Rev Stef, Tsz Kwan, etc. Their motto, “Lux Mundi” means “Light of the World” reminds us of our mission to be the shine brightly and bring God’s Words and Presence as blessings to the world.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15)
When we discuss about “Light of the World”, many will be reminded of Matthew 5:13-16 on Salt and Light. But today I am reminded of 2 Timothy 2:15 which says, “15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Apostle Paul gave this advice to a young Timothy towards the end of his life, to avoid quarrelling and godless chatter, to do our best to be mastered by the Word, to correctly handle it and present it with love. In this way, we do not need to be ashamed even when our service is not exciting or spectacular.
Trinity Theological College (In my opinion) stands by their mission, to train and develop pastors and lay leaders to be approved workers who correctly handles the word of truth, so that we can truly shine brightly as “Lux Mundi” for God. I remember during my orientation, the lecturer said that they are not ashamed of their academic rigor in their expectation of their students. I remember starting my theological education with “fear and trembling”, not knowing whether I will survive the academic rigor. Today, I am thankful of their faithfulness to God in insisting of the academic rigor which builds strong foundation in all their students in the handling of the Word.
“15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” I urge everyone to pray and reflect on our lives, on how we have been handling the word of truth in our lives, and do our best to continue to learn deeply on the Word that gives Life to us. May the LORD be with all of us.
