I Know That My Redeemer Lives

Job 19:25

May 13, 2025

Job, commended by God for his reverent heart, endured great suffering and trials.

We recently observed Holy Week. On 18 April, Good Friday, we commemorated the suffering and crucifixion of our Lord Jesus, who shed His blood and gave His life for all humanity, fulfilling God’s plan of redemption. On 20 April, Easter Sunday, we celebrated His resurrection—His triumph over death, His appearances to His disciples and others, and the giving of the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations.

“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” (Job 19:25)

According to the Church calendar, the seven Sundays following Easter, up to 1 June, are considered Easter Sundays. They serve as a weekly reminder to both disciples and the world that our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, has been alive for over 2,000 years and has never left His people. Both the Old and New Testaments are rich with accounts of Jesus’ suffering and resurrection—powerful assurances and messages of deep significance, joy, and hope.
In these turbulent times of political and economic instability, the pressures of daily life, and the effects of both natural and human-made disasters, we must be well-equipped to stand as faithful soldiers of Christ, boldly sharing the message of the risen Lord with our families, neighbours, and the nations.
In Job 19:25, Job proclaimed, “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” This is both a prophecy and a declaration. The incarnate Christ—who died, rose again, and lives forever—is our Redeemer, Emmanuel, Who is with us always. Job, commended by God for his reverent heart, endured great suffering and trials. His story teaches us to rely on God’s grace as we face life’s challenges, holding fast to hope.
In response to Job 19:25, I am especially moved by the hymn “I Know that My Redeemer Liveth”. Its chorus declares:
“I know, I know that Jesus liveth,
And on the earth again shall stand;
I know, I know that life He giveth,
That grace and power are in His hand.”
Thanks be to God for such powerful hymns. Music is a profound and stirring form of witness. God delights when we praise Him through songs and proclaim that He lives and reigns.
May, the month of missions, reminds us not to forget the deep love and Great Commission of our Lord Jesus. Let us go into all the world and proclaim the gospel, declaring that Jesus is coming again. He comes with the authority to give life and conquer death. He loves all who believe and follow Him, and He promises us grace throughout our lives and the hope of eternity.
Let us labour together, declaring the unchanging love of our faithful God in these troubled times, and spreading the gospel of peace, joy, and hope found in Jesus.
