Finding Courage in Faith

Isaiah 41:10

September 23, 2024

When overwhelmed by fear, we find ourselves devoid of peace.

Brothers and sisters, what is something—be it a circumstance or a change—that causes you to feel afraid?

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

It has been said that true courage is the willingness to move forward even in the face of fear. Fear is the opposite of courage; when we are afraid, our heart rates and blood pressure rise, often paralyzing our ability to act. When overwhelmed by fear, we find ourselves devoid of peace.

In moments of fear and dread, remember that our God is with us, ready to help us through our challenges. For example, God spoke to Jacob, saying, “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.” (Genesis 46:3).

When God saw that Hagar was afraid, He sent an angel from heaven to comfort her, saying, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.” (Genesis 21:17).

The prophet Isaiah reassured God’s people: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Brothers and sisters, if you feel any fear or trepidation, I encourage you to call on the Lord in prayer: “Dear Lord, help me not to be overwhelmed by fear. Calm my troubled heart, for You have called me by name. I am Your child, Your people. Strengthen my faith and grant me the courage to face difficulties, overcome my fears, and move forward fully trusting in You.”
