Blessed New Year

Psalm 27:4

January 12, 2026

May I gently ask you – do you enjoy intimacy with God?

DEAR KY FAMILY,
Once again, a very blessed new year to you and your family!
As I reflect upon the year that has so quickly gone by, I am mindful that the busyness of our nation and the secular culture of our time does not afford us the opportunities to regularly spend time in reflection, meditation or to simply bask in the presence of the Lord.

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (Ps 27:4)

King David famously wrote Psalm 27. V4 says,

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

May I gently ask you – do you enjoy intimacy with God? Do you desire it? What will you do to pursue it?
A very wise Senior pastor once told me that if you dig below the surface of the average Christian person, you will likely find inner anxieties, inner fears and inner insecurities. Seldom would you find an inner restedness. There may be engagement in spiritual activities, but for many, the inner life has not been discipled or formed in the quiet private places with the Lord. As a result, there are many restless Christians and few rested ones.
I find this to be very true especially in the modern day. While intimacy with God is not something we can earn (it is a gift from God), there are things we can do to pursue Him more intentionally. The spiritual disciplines, coined by the fathers of the faith (such as prayer, fasting, meditation, solitude, worship, service, celebration, etc.) give us a blueprint as to how we can make room for God in our busy lives.
As we depend on the Holy Spirit to fuel our desire for more of God in our hearts and lives, and we put actions to these holy desires to pursue Him, we will be changed more and more into the likeness of the Son. As we trust Him and pursue Him through the seasons of life, we will find that we become more spiritually mature, rested and surrendered disciples of Christ for the Lord’s use to accomplish His purposes in this world.
May this year be one where you experience great intimacy with the Lord, and grow more and more in the likeness of the Son!
