Luke 10:2
Be ready to share why you have hope.
The season of Advent is a time of joyful anticipation- we look back to Christ’s first coming and forward to His second. But it is also a powerful time to embrace His present mission.
In the midst of global chaos, calamities and conflicts, the world in crisis is desperately in need of hearing themes of hope, peace, joy, and love- the very gifts Christ brings. This makes Advent a divinely appointed moment to actively reach the lost. Our Lord teaches us that the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few (Luke 10:2 ESV).
During our KYdZ Outreach Camp held from November 26th to 28th, we were overjoyed to witness seventeen children coming to salvation. God is indeed good- praise Him!
The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few (Lk 10:2)
To seize this opportunity, may I submit to you three principles for advent outreach, focusing on the core attitude we must possess:
1. Cultivate Compassion
Take time to pray and reflect on the spiritual darkness and anxiety many face without Christ, especially as they cope with the pressures of life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son…” (John 3:16a). Let God’s compassion drive your actions.
2. Display Difference
Your gentle spirit, unhurried pace, and authentic joy in the midst of a consumer-driven frenzy will make people curious. The world needs to see the true peace of Christ modelled in your life. “…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16).
3. Share Story
Advent is the narrative of God drawing near to humanity. Use the holiday story – the manger, the star, the shepherds – as a bridge.
Be ready to share why you have hope.
To help us apply these truths, trying using the G.I.F.T. mnemonic to share the Good News:
Get Involved: Intentionally seek opportunities to serve others.
Focus on Truth: Point conversations back to the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus.
Beloved, as we reflect on whom the Lord is impressing in our hearts to reach out to:
• Identify some non-Christian family members, friends or acquaintances;
• What is one practical way you can exercise the 3 truths and G.I.F.T. this week (e.g., inviting them to an event, offering help, listening patiently, being there for them etc.)?
God bless you.
