Luke 23: 34
We cannot truly bear witness if we lack a personal experience and relationship with Jesus
Following the 40 days of Lent, Good Friday, and Easter, do you find a deepening of your experience and appreciation as Christ’s disciple each year?
“You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48)
Lent serves as a time for disciples to engage in spiritual disciplines and self-reflection. Daily, we commit ourselves to renewal through prayerful solitude and reflection, avoiding certain foods and recreational activities, repenting of our sins, and seeking to be more like Jesus.
Good Friday provides an opportunity for disciples to contemplate deeply the crucifixion of Christ – His bearing of the curse of sin for the sake of mankind. In His suffering, Christ reconciled us to God, demonstrating divine compassion and redeeming love for all sinners.
Easter marks a day of commemorating and celebrating the glory of Jesus’ resurrection – He rose from the dead three days after He died on the cross. It stands as the most pivotal day in human history, as our Saviour Jesus Christ triumphed over death and rose from the grave. Though all must face death, those who confess and believe in Jesus shall not perish but have eternal life!
In Luke 24:48, Jesus told His first disciples, and us too, “You are witnesses of these things.” We cannot truly bear witness if we lack a personal experience and relationship with Jesus.
Witness: Someone who shares and testifies to the truth and reliability of a matter before others.
Testimony: Testimony involves both what we say and how we live, demonstrating our new identity in Christ and the transformative power of our Christian faith. It is a means of sharing how God’s love and forgiveness have transformed us, with Jesus at the core of our message. Our motivation and strength to testify come from the Holy Spirit, and it is evident in how we interact with others and in the things we say and do. Ultimately, testimony is about lives touching lives.
These things: “These things” encompass all that God has recorded in the Bible – focusing on His creation and salvation plan, the sin of mankind, the birth of Christ, the signs and wonders of Jesus, the teaching and healing miracles of Jesus, the crucifixion of Jesus, the sacrificial love of Jesus on the cross, the resurrection of Jesus, and the second coming of Jesus, and more.
How deeply do you understand and experience “these things”? Are you ready to be a witness to these things?
