Never giving up, but Persevering to the end

Philippians 3:14

We are blessed to be a blessing

Dear KY family,

It will not be long before the year comes to a close. This is the period where many of our congregation committees and ministries begin seeking the Lord for what the next year may hold for each group of us, and begin planning as needed.

As I reflect over the year that is quickly going by, my heart is filled with gratitude for God’s goodness, kindness and faithfulness towards Kum Yan, and His continued trust in us to fulfill the mission that He placed before us since 108 years ago.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Phil 3:14)

I have read in our records that the founding members of Kum Yan did not start a church out of the blue. As they themselves were migrants to this land, they had gathered for worship regularly as was their practice back home. It was during these regular gatherings that they saw the needs of the prebelieving Cantonese-speaking people around them and had compassion for them. This church was founded to reach Cantonese-speaking people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and as the Lord has led, our mission has since expanded to include all the people of the land.

As each one of us, members of Kum Yan Methodist Church, reflect upon the faithfulness of God at every season, may we be reminded that we are blessed to be a blessing. May I invite you to consider, as you go about your week ahead, how you can contribute to our mission to be a family church united to glorify God by reaching its surrounding communities with the gospel and by nurturing and equipping believers for ministry
in the church and world missions?
If you are a church leader involved in the ministries of our church, may I invite you and your team to think a step further – how does your ministry help us to:

  • Reach surrounding communities with the Gospel?
  • Nurture and equip believers for ministry?
  • Discern and champion those called to evangelise the nations?

As we do so, may we fix our eyes on the goal to win the prize for which the Lord has called us (Phil 3:14), never giving up, but persevering to the end. Amen.
