Matthew 25:23
A good and faithful servant
The world today is marked by conflict, rapid change, uncertainty and fragility. We are thankful for the foresight and wise leadership of our government, which has introduced many helpful policies to support Singaporeans through difficult times and strengthen our nation’s resilience and competitiveness.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!… (Mt 25:23)
At the same time, the world is changing at such a remarkable pace that it can sometimes feel difficult to keep up. Artificial intelligence, for example, has advanced to the point where it can learn and improve on its own. This has raised concerns about how far it might develop and whether it could eventually become difficult to control.
When we look at what is happening around the world, it can be unsettling. In Revelation, we read about the seven seals, seven trumpets and seven bowls of God’s judgement (Revelation 4–16). These passages speak of troubles coming one after another and increasing in severity as the end draws near. As we look at the world today, we cannot help but wonder whether we are seeing glimpses of what Scripture has described.
In times like these, we need all the more to fix our eyes on our Heavenly Father. He is faithful and unchanging, and He always keeps His promises. He has provided salvation for us through Jesus Christ and given us the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of our inheritance: “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance” (Ephesians 1:13–14). He has also prepared an eternal home for us, the new Jerusalem, where He will dwell with His
people forever: “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them” (Revelation 21:3).
So, even as we face an uncertain and rapidly changing world, let us keep our eyes fixed on God and faithfully carry out the mission He has entrusted to us. And when the day comes for us to meet the Lord face to face, may we hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23).
