PROCLAIMING THE PROMISE: SHARING THE LIGHT

John 1:5

December 22, 2025

Let the S.T.A.R. guide your proclamation

The Advent season finds its fulfilment in Christ, the light of the world, whose promise has come to shine in the darkness (John 1:5, ESV). Having cultivated a heart of compassion and displayed the difference Christ makes, our next step is to proclaim the promise of salvation with clarity and confidence.
Christian author and apologist C.S. Lewis wisely noted that Christmas is “the story of God becoming man” (and if I may add, “so He could be with man.”). This simple, profound truth is the foundation of our evangelistic message.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (Jn 1:5)

The festive season provides a unique spiritual climate for outreach because of three compelling reasons:

1. People Ponder Prophecies:
Even secular carols and decorations spark conversations about hope, peace, and the meaning of life. People are often more willing to discuss spiritual things during this time than any other. Try the titles of Christ- Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace- in Isaiah 9:6-7, that resonate deeply with the needs of a struggling world.

2. People Seek Peace:
The gap between the advertised “perfect” Christmas and their personal reality often creates loneliness, stress, and anxiety, leading to emotional emptiness. This is a perfect moment to introduce the God’s true and lasting peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

3. People Practise Proximity:
The holidays naturally involve gatherings, parties, and family events, giving us increased, organic access to unchurched neighbours, co-workers, and relatives. Don’t avoid these interactions, be intentional about them. Embrace them as mission fields for the glory of God our Father.
So during this season of Advent, as you engage in conversation, let the S.T.A.R. guide your proclamation:
Share your Testimony: Briefly and authentically share what Jesus has done for you.
Ask and Refer: Ask gentle, open-ended questions about their holiday or their hope, and refer them to a resource (e.g., a special church service such as our Sunday Christmas Outreach Service, a Christian book, or a simple Gospel summary).
What is one aspect of the Gospel promise that particularly resonates with you right now, and how will you practise sharing that specific truth (your testimony) this week? The peace of God be with you as you embark on this wonderful endeavour of bringing hope to the world.
