Luke 19:28-40

It is the day where Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey, getting ready for his royal ascension.
Luke 19:28–40
28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approache Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called th Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt
tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ” 32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. 37 When he came near the place where the
road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to
praise God in loud voices for all the miracles
they had seen:
38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
Dear brothers and sisters-in-Christ, today is Palm Sunday. It is the day where Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey, getting ready for his royal ascension. Luke 19:28-40 recorded the happenings of how Jesus went about going up to Jerusalem, and the responses of the people when he enters Jerusalem. There were people who willingly allow their colt to be used by Jesus. There were also people who threw their cloaks on the colt and spread them on the road as a sign of honoring the coming of a King. In verse 37 it says, “As he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they have seen.” They have seen the mighty works of Jesus and gave affirmation to the ministry of Jesus, praising God joyfully with declaration, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” They may not understand how Jesus is going to ascend to the throne, but indeed, they gave all honour and praise for every work that they have seen in Jesus.
Yet in verse 39-40, we see the complaint of the Pharisees. It is recorded that some of the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” For all the wonderful mighty good works of Jesus that were presented to them, they simply cannot see what God is doing in Jesus. Instead, they see only how it affects their administrative and spiritual authority. I feel sad for them because they were actually diligent and faithful to guard the faith, especially during the 400 silent years between the Old Testament and New Testament. It is sad that for all the years of hard work in guarding and protecting the Jews from the influence of the Roman culture, it has blinded them when it truly matters.
Dear brothers and sisters-in-Christ, as we prepare ourselves for Holy Week, let us reflect on the mighty works of Jesus Christ our Lord through the Cross. Let us give praise and honour to Him for all the works that He has done for us. May the Lord bless us with spiritual sight, and spiritual discernment to know Him, His blessings and His plans for us. Amen!
