107th Anniversary
March 10, 2025

A very blessed 107th anniversary to Kum Yan Methodist Church!

A very blessed 107th anniversary to Kum Yan Methodist Church! Wow, 107 years! 107 years of God’s goodness and faithfulness, 107 years of His providence and guidance, 107 years of God’s people telling the stories of God from generation to generation – This is indeed cause for celebration!

All the blessings, heritage and inheritance of Kum Yan come entirely by the grace of God.

Every year in March, we celebrate how the Lord has brought us together as His church for such a time as this. This year is no different in that sense, and yet, it is somewhat different because God is doing a new thing in this season. For some of us, this may bring a bit of anxiety. But take heart. Though we are closer to the End than we were last year and in the years before, the God we serve remains the same – powerful, generous, trustworthy, faithful, loving, and a God who chooses to partner with the people He calls His own to bring His healing salvific grace to a broken world.

As we celebrate our church’s 107th anniversary this year, I invite you to prayerfully consider what the Lord might be calling us as a church to embark on for this year and the years ahead. What does it mean for Kum Yan to be “a caring community, a lighthouse, a home in the city” for those out there? And for yourself and your family, how might you serve the church to follow the Mission He has had for us to be a “family church united to glorify God by reaching its surrounding communities with the gospel”?

Our God is a God who calls and commissions His church in every new season for the things that are upon His heart for the nation and communities He has placed us in. It is never our own strength, ingenuity or attractiveness that determines our inheritance. All the blessings, heritage and inheritance of Kum Yan come entirely by the grace of God. Therefore, in taking up what He has in store for us in this season and for this generation, it is and has to be ultimately the work of God who works in us and through us for His glory!

May Kum Yan Methodist Church be a church family where God Almighty – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – has His way in all things, through all our family, to all the corners of our nation and our world as He would have it. May the Father and Lord of us all have all that He envisioned when He first called the few Cantonese teachers 107 years ago. Indeed, on this momentous occasion of Kum Yan Methodist Church’s 107th anniversary, may all glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost – As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
